The Designer
Brody Neuenschwander is a calligrapher and text artist working in a wide range of media, from paper and canvas to textiles, metal and glass; from sculpture, light and architecture to film, performance and even human skin. He is obsessed with the fleeting nature of language. His work captures words for all time while conceding that they can never be grasped or fully understood. Neuenschwander is a dedicated teacher and has given workshops all over the world. Together with Dox Productions, London, he has recently completed a documentary on the history and future of writing for Arte, the BBC and Nova.

The Maker
Handwritmic is a brand of X MARK, based in the Italian industrial region known for the production of luxury textiles (Biella). Handwritmic collaborated with Brody Neuenschwander for its first project, a top class ruling pen. Handwritmic’s mission is to create beautiful tools for the calligrapher of the 21st century. Our expertise in metalwork gave the designer Brody Neuenschwander the necessary technical support and advice to realize his ambition to create these original and unique bracelets based on letterforms and poems.

The Technique
Contrary to appearances, the bracelets we have created with Brody Neuenschwander are not laser cut. We use a more sophisticated technique to conjure the designs from thin sheets of metal. The stainless steel is of the highest quality, with a springy strength that allows it to return to the original shape after the bracelet is opened. The polishing is so thorough and perfect that the outer and inner edges are softened, making the bracelets a delight to wear. The final stage is done entirely by hand, relying on our metalworking skills to achieve a perfect finish. This process creates bracelets that are very light and comfortable. It is a pleasure to wear them. It is as if the metal has been turned into a soft, compliant material.

The mirror steel bracelets are made of a special stainless steel and are polished finely and for a long time so that in the end the surface is shiny and sparkling.

The bracelets measure 45 mm in height.

Each bracelet design is made in three sizes (S, M, L).
